Strait and Narrow

The Louise Narrows are behind us, having been successfully transited by Quijote and crew. The middle of the narrows dries at low tide, but we timed our arrival for high tide, which added about 16' to the depth. When we were in the shallowest part, the depth instrument showed 10', so the water level drops another six feet at the lowest low tide after the middle of the channel dies.

It was an interesting excursion. Parts of the channel are dredged and the material that is removed lines the channel. In those parts it has the feel of navigating the boat down a ditch.

We arrived in the new anchorage at mid-day and found a sailboat already anchored. This is the first time we've shared an anchorage (other than with Opus) since Doig Chappell eleven days ago.

Chuck and I took the dinghy ashore this afternoon and got some walking in. We used the outboard for the first time this trip. I use a fogging oil sprayed into the cylinders at the end of every season, so the outboard fired up without too much persuasion.

It's my turn to make dinner tonight. We'll bbq sausages on the grill and eat them with mash potatoes and a veggie tbd.

The winds are slowly building over the next few days. We have our fingers crossed for lighter wind when we're ready to make our break for the mainland.
