Louise Narrows

We endured a 4am start this morning owing to a long, 65 mile day ahead of us. We did the passage in good time and it was a fairly smooth ride for most of the day.

We were hailed by another sailboat today. They asked if we wanted to cross the strait together as Buddy boats. Alas, we're not crossing today. Just going around the peninsula. They said they just finished cruising the park and had a terrific time.

We transited a shoal area at one point today. The depth went from 200' to 25' in a matter of moments.

Tomorrow we'll depart at 6am, (practically sleeping in compared to today) to meet the high tide at Louise Narrows. The guide book says this of the narrows: once you are in the Louise Narrows channel, there is limited visibility and it's impossible to pass another boat or turn around. It is recommended to announce your passage with a securite call on the VHF radio. It's a beautiful passage well worth the risk for any crusing boat up to 65' and 19' beam. (Quijote is 37' x 11')

Chuck whipped up chicken fajitas for dinner tonight, a little off script, but it's always nice to have something new.
