New Crew

It's been a cloudy, grey day today: foggy in the morning, then overcast after the fog lifted.

We arrived in our cove this afternoon to find it empty. It's dusk now and still, just one other boat, a motor cruiser, has followed us in. Thankfully he's well away from us on the other side of this rather large bay. The sound of his generator, humming smoothly, carries to us over the water.

The birds have been active this evening. Loons, frigates, eagles, and gulls have all been making their presence known. It's after 10 pm and the light is only now beginning to dim.

It's interesting listening to the sounds of a cove. In addition to all the aviary noises, there's a lot going on in the water. I can rarely see what makes this or that splash in the water. Yesterday I saw the salmon leaping out of the water as if being set on fire. Today it's not even clear whether it's birds or fish at play, frolicking just under the waters surface.

Chuck noticed this evening that the bay became noticeably larger at high tide. That's true of all these coves of course; it was just particularly noticeable tonight.

We've added a couple of anchorages to our itinerary to fill in the extra days we have before arriving in Shearwater on the sixth. We're in Rescue Bay tonight, Arthur Is Cove tomorrow, Oliver Cove on Tue night, and Shearwater on Wed and Thur nights.

We have fresh crew joining us in the coming days as well. Apna (apologies for botched spelling) will be joining us in Shearwater, departing in Campbell River. And Farzan will join us in Campbell River and depart in Seattle. Welcome Quijote crew!
