Wire? What wire?

We’re going to Haida Gwaii. This trip will cover a lot previously sailed waters, but we’ll  explore new anchorages, revisit some old favorites. When we get to Prince Rupert, rather than continuing North as we did in 2016, we’ll head out across the Hecate Strait to Haida Gwaii, also known as the Queen Charlotte Islands. Those islands form a large archipelago about 80 to 100 miles off shore depending on where are you make the Crossing.

Another interesting feature of this trip will be to travel alongside Kevin and his new, to him, sailboat Opus. Kevin has crewed for me on a couple of previous trips, and now ventures out in his own boat. We are planning to anchor in some of the same places, raft the boats together at times, and keep an eye on each other for safety. It never hurts to have a friend out there.

The two boats, Quijote and Opus, may swap crew occasionally to keep things interesting, but the two crew members lined up to sail primarily on Quijote are Matt, going northbound as far as Prince Rupert, and Chuck sailing from Prince Rupert to Haida Gwaii and back to Seattle. It’s always fun to welcome new Quijote crew.

Today is a workday on the boat. I’ll be changing the engine oil, storing provisions, re-assembling the wind generator, and putting loose ends to bed. Then on Sunday Matt arrives and we’ll move the boat to Shilshole for an early Monday morning departure.

We’re down the wire!
